“The Director of Environment and Global Environment Facility (GEF) Operational Focal Point (OFP), Mr Haden Talagi officially launched the new ”Niuean Invasive Species Battler” vehicle. The vehicle is part of the support provided from the Global Environment Facility 6, Regional Invasive Project (GEF-6 RIP) that Niue is part of with three other Pacific Countries (Tuvalu, Marshall Islands & Tonga).Our sincere gratitude and appreciation go towards GEF, UNEP, Government of Niue, Microbyte Systems Limited and the Invasive Species Team based at SPREP, Samoa for their support and dedication in making this a reality. The vehicle will be a Valuable Asset for the Feral Pig Management Programme and the Invasive Weeds Spraying Programme that is being implemented as part of the GEF-6 RIP as the vehicle specifications were chosen based on lessons learnt previously. The Department of Environment as Implementing Agency for the project and other key stakeholders, aims to assist communities around the country in getting rid of these invasive species on Niue”
